50 years of Scouting in Ballinteer, and still going strong.

171 young people. 36 volunteer leaders. 7 sections. One of the largest and most active Scout groups in Dublin 16.

From the moment kids join as Beavers at age 6 right through to Rovers in their twenties, 115th Ballinteer gives young people the space to push themselves, try new things and build friendships that last. Every week there's something real happening: hikes in the Dublin Mountains, nights under canvas, campfires, challenges and adventures that don't involve a screen.

We're part of Scouting Ireland, the national Scout organisation, which provides the programme framework, training and safeguarding standards our leaders work to. The programme is built around six areas of personal development known as SPICES: Social, Physical, Intellectual, Character, Emotional and Spiritual growth.

Everything here is run by volunteers: parents, past members and people from the community who give their time week in, week out. Behind every session is a leader who planned it, organised the transport, handled the paperwork and turned up on a wet Tuesday night because they believe in what Scouting does for young people. We're proud of every one of them.

We've been here since September 1975, built our own den in 1981, and celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2025. Read the full story.

Our initiatives

Scouting has always been about more than activities. Here are some of the ways we give back and keep things sustainable.

♻️ Uniform recycling

Outgrown shirts and neckers don't need to go in the bin. We help families pass on good-condition uniform so new members can kit up affordably and nothing goes to waste. Ask your section leader about donating or requesting items.

🎟️ Fundraising

We run fundraising throughout the year to support camps, equipment and the den. Recent events have included our annual 12 Days of Christmas Raffle, the Tesco Community Fund, and quizzes, clothes drives and bake sales run by individual sections. Everything raised goes straight back into the group.

🌍 Local action

From litter picks to community events, our sections regularly take on projects that make Ballinteer a bit better. Leaders will share what's coming up in your section.
